This is a list of different types of yeast infection.  It is not exhaustive but covers the most common types of yeast infection.

-Candida Balanitis

Candida Balanitis is a type of yeast infection that affects men: it occurs on the penis, and is irritating to say the least.  Comes under the more specific term Candidiasis (of which vaginal and oral thrush are also types)   It is caused by Candida species, of which the most frequent is Candida albicans.

This is a type of yeast infection which occurs in skin folds and caused by Candida albicans.  Usually occurs in moist areas where skin touches skin: for example, the crotch or the armpits.  One may get a fungal infection along with it.

“Candida Albicans” is a diploid fungus (a form of yeast) and a causal agent of opportunistic oral and genital infections in humans…. Under normal circumstances, C. albicans lives in 80% of the human population with no harmful effects, although overgrowth results in candidiasis” says Wikipedia. ( It is often mistaken for an STD so diagnosis from a doctor should be obtained)

-Oral thrush

or Oral yeast infection: This obviously occurs in the mouth.  Oral thrush is an infection of the fungus Candida albicans, in the mouth cavity

-Vaginal Yeast Infection.

Caused by Vaginal Candidiasis or Monilial Vaginitis.  Sometimes called “Candida vaginal infections,” these types of yeast infections are caused by the fungus Candida albicans (the Monilial type is caused by the yeast-like fungus ‘Monilia‘). This is very common and we will look at causes elsewhere on this site.  Statistically, 75% of all women are likely to have at least 1 vaginal Candida infection in their life, and up to 45%  have at least two.. –

Systemic Candidiasis

Systemic candidiasis is when the candida infection enters the blood stream, and is one of the types of yeast infections which can lead to serious problems.   If it invades the major organs such as the brain and heart, it can be fatal. It is rare in healthy people but often found in those suffering from A.I.D.S or cancer.

Yeast Infection in Children

Thrush is the most common type of yeast infection affecting children. Small children and babies have a weaker, more immature immune system and are susceptible to yeast infections.  They can get it through breastfeeding or if they are put on antibiotics.

Candida esophagitis,

is that one of the types of yeast infections that occurs in the esophagus. It is related to thrush (a yeast infection in the throat) and Vaginal yeast infection and the only difference is its location in the esophagus–the tube that connects the mouth and nose with the stomach.
